What have you done with a Raspberry Pi? Nothing? Well, get on it. It’s such a good reference platform for all of those experiments, and those product ideas that aren’t quite mature. TBH we used it to develop some really world-changing products and services over the last few years, so I know the power of this architecture.
This and a good radio, and a good software stack like Debian, and you are good to go.
I turn to a desktop activity that I use fairly frequently. It’s screen capturing – sharing something on my computer screen with a colleague or friend.
